Mission Statement -
Governing Youth Council is a networking group that plans & coordinates drug free, and violence free activities to promote positive youth lifestyles.

 History -
G.Y.C. was started in 1986 when Governor Matheson was in office.  He wanted a youth council so he would know the problems Utah's youth face.

Program Objectives -

1. Establish a students network among Utah high schools w/risk-focused prevention programs.

2. Implement & coordinate national & state-wide substance abuse awareness campaigns.

3. Initiate & coordinate drug free activities.

4. Receive specific training in the social action process.

5. Bring about positive social change in cooperation with national, state & vocal leaders.
