Tigers pounce on Warriors PDF Print

HURRICANE - The Hurricane homecoming fireworks started long before its post-
game celebration against Region 9 foe Snow Canyon on Friday night.

The word "domination" is a hefty description and shouldn't be used lightly
when describing a football game. Yet in this case the Tigers simply controlled all phases
of the game during their 42-7 rout of the Warriors.

"We have speed and we have size," said running back Adam Thompson, who had
one touchdown as part of a Tigers ground attack that totaled 322 yards. "Our
offensive line does a great job in creating big holes for our running game."

Thompson said Hurricane anticipated a physical contest with Snow Canyon and
knew it would have to bring a great offensive effort. Needless to say, the
Region 9 leader accomplished its mission. In seven first-half possessions, Hurricane
scored touchdowns in six of them. Brian Scott, who finished at a 124 yards on seven
carries, scored three of those touchdowns with runs of 5, 46, and 7 yards.

"I think the biggest thing is that each player buys into the system and trusts each
person to do their job," said tight end-linebacker Colton Marshall. "We work hard
in practice and it helps us do the best we can in the games."

On the other side, Snow Canyon had a rough time from start to finish. On the first
play, a Warriors fumble on their own 20 helped set the tone for the next 47
minutes. The Warriors didn't secure a first down until their fourth possession at the
10:14 mark of the second quarter. In all, the offense tallied 192 yards, converting
just 2-of-9 of their third down conversions.

Meanwhile, Hurricane converted 5-of-10 of its third-down attempts and totaled 406
yards.

After closing the first quarter with a 28-0 lead, Hurricane (3-0 region; 6-0 overall)
kept its foot on the gas and captured all the momentum with two more touchdowns
before halftime.

Starting at the Warrior 39, Thompson capped a three-play drive with a highlight
run toward the Tigers' sideline. He then made a cut and turned up field, and
although multiple Snow Canyon defenders got a hand on his jersey they were unable
to bring him down.

Quarterback Taylor Parker (79 yards on 4-of-9 passing) put the exclamation point on
the first half with a 36-yard, quarterback sneak to secure Hurricane's 42-0 lead at
the break.

Snow Canyon (1-1, 2-3) never quit, though, and did avoid the shutout when
running back Corbin Moffitt's 6-yard touchdown run ended its scoring drought.
Mitch Phillips led all Warriors with 80 yards rushing on 20 carries, and quarterback
Brayden Linde threw for 67 yards on 5-of-14 attempts with two interceptions.

Hurricane's Bryan Lee led the defense with six tackles and one sack. Offensively,
Weston Yardley and Cameron Hatanaka (one touchdown) combined for 87 yards in
limited action.

Up next for Hurricane is a home date with Pine View on Friday while Snow Canyon will
host Cedar. Both games start at 7 p.m.
