Hurricane's Brian Scott picked up Region 9 football MVP honors as voted on by the coaches.

Scott scored 31 touchdowns for the 3A state champions.

Cedar's John Ursua was named Region 9 Offensive Player of the Year, while Desert Hills' Peter Brown was tabbed as Region 9 Defensive Player of the Year. Hurricane's Weston Yardley was picked as the Region 9 Specialist of the Year.

T-Birds tabbed 2nd for SL indoor season

SUU's men's and women's track & field programs have been picked to finish second in the Summit League indoor championship in the annual preseason coaches poll.

The men, who finished fourth in the 2011 indoor season, earned 40 points in the poll. The women finished second at the 2011 championship and picked up 55 points. Both teams earned one first-place vote in their respective polls.

North Dakota State was favored to repeat as champion on both the men's and women's sides, defending its title for the third consecutive year. South Dakota State was voted third in both polls after finishing second on the men's side and fourth on the women's side last season.

The T-Birds will begin the indoor season Jan. 14 at the Lumberjack Invitational in Flagstaff, Ariz.

DSC to honor Blake at halftime

Dixie State will host a special halftime ceremony when the men's and women's teams take the court against conference foe Notre Dame de Namur on Monday.

The school will be awarded the Pac West Community Outreach award from commissioner Bob Hogue, and local golfer Jay Don Blake will also be honored for his success on the Champion's Tour.

Blake will also be hitting faux golf balls into the stands with prizes attached to them.

DSC's Duncan picks up another honor

Junior tight end Joe Don Duncan was been named to the 2011 Daktronics All-Super Region 4 second team.

Duncan led the Red Storm in receptions (64) and receiving yards (949) in 10 games this season.

He also was a force on special teams with three tackles, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. Duncan previously earned first team All-Great Northwest Conference accolades and was the GNAC Newcomer of the Year.

Duncan joins former DSC kicker Mike Langston, a 2010 1st-Team punter, as Daktronics All-Region honorees.

NCAA presentation to be held

Dixie High Councilor Lisa Mitchell and Dixie Athletic Director Mike Bair will host an NCAA presentation Jan. 19 at Dixie High School from 6 to 8 p.m.
