| SALT LAKE CITY — All season long, the Hurricane girls basketball team prided itself on surprising a few teams on the way. The Tigers kept it close, but could never take the lead from the Delta Rabbits, falling 43-37 in Thursday night’s quarterfinal matchup. Guard Angela Shields led Hurricane with 13 points, five rebounds and three steals, and six came from the charity stripe. Taylor Steglich added 10 points and four rebounds. Delta’s Kaity Diaz went 9-for-14 from the free-throw line en route to the game-high 20 points. But more importantly was her paint presence where she pulled down 12 rebounds and blocked one shot. The Tigers gave up 13 points off of 11 turnovers, while scoring just three points off of 16 Rabbit turnovers.
Hurricane was trying to avenge a 25-point shellacking to Delta earlier this season, and keep its playoff luck going with a second straight upset.
However, the Rabbits kept their composure to keep the Tigers at bay. In addition to Diaz’s monster game, Kennedy Springer was a force around the basket with 12 rebounds.
Hurricane will face Region 9 rival Cedar in today’s consolation bracket, 11:10 a.m.
