ST. GEORGE - The Snow Canyon Warriors had a 16-point lead on their home floor. Problem was, the opposition still had more than a full half to rally.

Not only did visiting Hurricane wipe out the deficit, it forced Snow Canyon to hit free throws. Once Kylie Moore did her part, victory was secured.

Moore hit 9-of-10 from the line in the fourth quarter and the Warriors barely held on for a 50-46 win over the Tigers on Thursday.

"We want to rush the opponent. We don't want them to rush us," said Moore, who finished with a game-high 19 points. "We had to rely on our teammates to play smart basketball."

Patience would prove to be a virtue as well.

Moore had six points in an 11-0 second-quarter run that helped Snow Canyon (6-6) build a 28-12 lead, but Hurricane (4-7) didn't go away quietly. Megan Clyde and Siai Keil sparked a 9-2 Tiger tear over the rest of the period that closed the margin to 30-21 at the half.

Hurricane's surge continued after the intermission, and when Kalistina Takau got inside for a layup, the Tigers were back in front at 37-36 in the opening minute of the fourth quarter. After two free throws each from Moore and Riley Pearce sandwiched around a Carly Stratton basket, the Warrior junior beat her defender inside for a layup and a 42-39 lead.

Snow Canyon never trailed again. Despite losing senior Megan Clyde (14 points) to her fifth foul, the Tigers were able to close within 48-46 on a Megan Campbell 3-pointer with 4.4 seconds left.

Moore sealed the victory by hitting two free throws with 2.6 seconds remaining.

"We let (Hurricane) get back into it and we shouldn't have," said the Warriors' Liz Ricks, who helped out the effort with 13 points, including two free throws in the fourth quarter. "We need to learn to finish games and close them out quick, like in the first half, but we wanted to make it exciting."

A bit too exciting for Warriors coach Wade Jensen.

"That was ugly, but a win is a win," he said. "It was a very physical game, but we came out OK."

Both sides battled foul trouble throughout the game. While the Tigers lost Clyde and Takau to fouls, the Warriors' Chantel Ence also fouled out. The free-throw battle came out as close as the score. Hurricane was 18-for-30 from the line, while Snow Canyon was 20-for-30.
